Chairs Report
July 2008
We are pleased to report that following our presentations to both Sompting and Lancing Parish Councils, they have agreed to support the Project with pledges totalling £5,500. We have requested support from Adur District Council and are awaiting their reply. Individuals and local companies have pledged over £200 to date.
A positive response was received for Viridor (Landfill Tax Credits) who have agreed a sum of £25.000. Taking all this together and that pledged from West Sussex County Council, we have now got over 20% of the £490,000 that we need to build our Community Centre.
Our meeting here in Lancing, with the Big Lottery went well. They viewed the site and met with members of the committee and the Architect. We will hear from the Big Lottery before the end of July and not September as we originally thought. If they agree to support the build project we will have over 80% of the funds we need. We will let you know as soon as we can.
We now have a treasurer in place, another volunteer from the community, which supported our Lottery bid.
Several families to our knowledge have moved into Leconfield Road in the past year and they are supportive of the Project. Committee members are happy to meet with local residents to ally their fears of having a Community Centre in their midst.
In early July we entered two teams into the Lancing Rangers ‘Its- a- knockout’ event on Monks Rec and are very please to announce that our youngest team aged between 7 and 10 called “Project One” came first in their age group and “Project Two” aged 11-14, came third in theirs. They all looked like a team, all wearing our Project T-shirts. Very well done to all those that took part.
Since then we have had a Picnic at Brooklands where the young people enjoyed both Train and Horse rides followed by an Ice –cream. Very soon we have our site clearance on Saturday 26th July in the morning followed very quickly by a trip to Fishers Farm, and at the start of September we will be taking our older young people to the Spectrum Centre in Guildford for skating and bowling.
We will soon have a meeting to plan for the autumn activities, if you would like to get involved with the project then please contact us via this website.
